Englands Greatest XI - The 1000th test

England cricket fans voted for their best ever XI to celebrate the 1000th men's Test at Edgbaston. We were asked by the ECB to illustrate the eleven individuals in the form of a programme cover that would be sold at the ground during the test. Timescales were tight as the public vote didnt end until 72 hours before the programme cover had to go to print.

We based the illustration around a classic team photo pose, with 5 players sitting on the front row and 6 players standing behind them. These illustrations were then re-used inside the programme as spot illustrations to support an article on the greatest ever XI.

During the test, each player included in the eleven or their surviving families were presented with an A2 poster of themselves. The artwork was also used on social media to promote the vote and within the ground during the test on the big screen.

The work was also shared across mainstream media, being used as the backdrop to a story on Sky Sports News as well as being featured online by BT Sport, the BBC and other major cricket news outlets.
