The 2015 FA Cup Final was played between Arsenal and Aston Villa on the 30th May at Wembley Stadium.. The match was broadcast live by both BT Sport and the BBC. In an effort to promote their own broadcast, BT Sport commissioned me to create some illustrations based on the two teams that could be used across social media to raise awareness that the match was available to their customers.
For the Arsenal creative, the famous song "She wore a yellow ribbon" was selected to be used to form the base of the design. The song lyrics were illustrated to create the shape of the FA Cup. Surrounding this were the names of every Arsenal manager from the clubs history who had previously won the FA Cup. Also included in the design were the names of every player who had scored an FA Cup final goal. Arsenal had also won 11 FA Cups at this point, so the silhouette of the trophy was hidden 11 times throughout the illustration. At the forefront of the work is Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal's best player in his tradition celebration pose.
The Villa creative followed the same format, using "Hi-Ho Aston Villa" for the song lyrics. It also featured the names of all of the past successful managers and cup final scorers. Christian Benteke was chosen as their star, featured celebrating with his trademark one fingered point.
The main creative was then used to create smaller "social media friendly" pieces of work that were used across BT Sport's social media platforms, reaching an overall audience of around 400,000 customers.
