I've had loads of inquiries lately from Liverpool fans asking if the LFC Postcard Series will be back for the 2015/16 season, so I wanted to give you a sneak peek of what I have in store for the next 12 months and give you an update on my journey so far.
It's been incredible to see the LFC Postcard Series grow from a simple idea in August 2013 to a project that has been sold to over 30 countries across the world, in places including Brazil, The Solomon Islands, Russia, New Zealand, Singapore and even Iceland! When I designed that first postcard after the opening game of the 2013/14 season I had no idea what the project would turn into. In fact, that first postcard wasn't even for sale! Something I had created purely for fun to combine my love of design with my passion for LFC snowballed into a massive project that coincided with Liverpool Football Club's best league season in recent years.
After the success of the series in 2014, it seemed a "no-brainer" to do it all over again for the 2014/15 season. However, as we all know, last season was unfortunately scattered with inconsistency as the Reds never really got going and as a result, sales of postcards suffered. It's fair to say that only a small minority are going to spend their hard earned cash on a postcard that commemorates a 6-1 defeat to Stoke!
So heading into the new season I was faced with a dilemma. On the one hand, I love creating new postcards each week and the feedback I've received from customers has been a massive encouragement to keep going. However, a huge amount of my time goes into new designs each week and I'm also faced with the upfront cost of getting the postcards printed, regardless of whether anyone wants them or not. On a handful of occasions last season I was left out of pocket (I'm looking at you Stoke/Man Utd/Chelsea) as I spent more time/money on production of the postcards than I earned back in sales and that is a formula that can't be sustained.
So in conjunction with the club, I have planned not one, but two new LFC Postcard series'. They will still be released weekly to coincide with matches, but they won't specifically focus on the results of the last match. Keep an eye on my blog, twitter and instagram account over the next few days to find out more.
